Olivewoods Ranch

Olivewoods game ranch is over 5500 hectare (13585 acres) in size and abounds with game. Mark Whitehead grew up on the ranch and knows every inch of the land intimately. His knowledge of both the land and the game that he farms, ensures that your visit to the farm will remain one of the most unforgetable experiences of your lifetime.

Olivewoods has an abundance of game of all sizes, from the inquisitive suricate to the elegant eland.

The Whiteheads have been farming with game since 1974. You can find Impala, Steenbok, Springbok, Hartebeest, Wildebeest, Blesbok and Zebra, to name a few. A herd of Impala has turned the field opposite the homestead into their personal morning and evening feeding ground, so from the comfort of your bedroom, you can wakeup to the sight of grazing Impala.

Visitors can choose to be housed in the historic homestead of Hollowdene, or in the more rustic bush camp.

Hollowdene

The main safari lodge on the ranch is Hollowdene. This historic house dates back to the 1830s. The South African pioneer, Louis Trichardt stayed in this homestead and farmed the sheep and cattle in the area. It was from this very homestead that he started his great trek to the north, which finally ended in modern day Maputo.

Tented camp

The bush camp is situated within half a kilometer of the Hollowdene homestead, in a thicket of indigenous trees. There are 5 2-man tents, a large 6 man tent, and two ablution areas with hot showers and flush lavatories. The entertainment area includes an outdoor boma and indoor dining and kitchen area. The ideal place to return to after a day in the bush. A place to exchange stories of the day's game sightings while enjoying a scrumptious meal by the fireside.

Just above the bush camp, is a large dam. This is the ideal place for water entertainment. Everything from gentle bird watching to fishing, or just messing around in boats. Whatever takes your fancy.

Hunting
